Pepsi and Elvis — Dachshund Studio Portraits at Bentwaters

Pepsi and Elvis came in for a studio session at Bentwaters — two smooth-coated dachshunds, both full of energy from the moment they arrived.

Two Dogs in the Studio

Two dogs always adds a layer of unpredictability to a session. You’re essentially running two parallel settling-in processes at once, and they influence each other. If one is distracted or unsettled, it can set the other off. Fortunately, Pepsi and Elvis were both fairly confident, which helped.

We started with individual portraits for each dog — standard practice when there are two or more animals in the same session. It gives each one time in front of the camera on their own terms, and you build up a good set of individual images alongside anything you might capture with them together.

Smooth-Coated Dachshunds in the Studio

Smooth-coated dachshunds photograph well under studio lighting. There’s no long fur to lose detail in, and the coat reflects the light cleanly, which makes it easier to get the texture and depth you’re after. Their faces tend to be very expressive, and both Pepsi and Elvis gave the camera plenty to work with.

The Results

The session produced a solid set of portraits — both individually and with the two dogs together. The images capture each dog’s character clearly, which is what a portrait session should do.
