The Sausage Dog Photographer

My story

Bob Foyers, The Sausage Dog Photographer, with a litter of sausage dog puppies

It started at Southwold

This all began when I volunteered to help my good friend Laura, who organises the Southwold Sausage Dog Walk with her team. Hundreds of dachshunds on one beach is quite a sight, and photographing them taught me more about dog behaviour than any course could.

Over the years I’ve photographed thousands of sausage dogs. When Laura suggested I should offer studio shoots, it was one of those obvious ideas that somehow needed someone else to say out loud.

What I’m trying to make

My aim is a classic studio portrait: your dog, properly lit, on a clean background, looking like themselves. Some dogs give you regal. Some give you chaos. Both make good portraits.

I photograph with the finished piece in mind, because these images are made to be printed. A portrait on the wall gets looked at every day. A file in a folder doesn’t.

There’s no pressure attached to any of it. After the session you choose the images you want from a private online gallery, in your own time, at home.

Foyers Photography

I’ve run Foyers Photography for over ten years. My studio is at Bentwaters, the former RAF base at Rendlesham near Woodbridge, where I photograph everything from corporate headshots to product work. The sausage dogs are the most entertaining part of the week by some distance.
